UBH's Adopt a Unit Program was featured in the LA Times!
Thank you for your interest in our Adopt-A-Unit Program at Family Shelter in
When adopting a unit at Family Shelter, adopters are adopting that unit for 1 year. Each unit will house 4 families per year (each family stays up to 90 days). Adopters spend approximately $1,000-$1,500 to supply a unit for an entire year, meaning those funds will cover adopting the unit for all 4 families it will house.
The Adopt-A-Unit program consists of three components:
(1) Fundraising
(2) Purchasing the household items for 4 families (see list below)
(3) Supplying the unit every 90 days, or, you can store your items at UBH and UBH will furnish your unit with your items for you.
***An alternative to this is to adopt a unit with a financial contribution of $1,250. We will do all the shopping & furnishing for you!
When adopting a unit at Family Shelter for the year, UBH will put your name(s) or company/club/group's name on a plaque at the unit's door saying "adopted by....." in a show of appreciation.
Typically, an individual or a group of volunteers will spend a few hours shopping for the items, and then a less than an hour to complete furnishing the actual unit. We are happy to store you unit's items, and refresh the unit after each family leaves. Likewise, you can do this yourself. If you choose to refresh your unit yourself every 90 days, we will coordinate with you to give you as much lead time as possible, typically about 7 days in advance. We appreciate your flexibility!
Below is the list of items that each new family entering our program at Family Shelter will need. UBH provides the beds, eating table & chairs, drawers, microwave and a mini- fridge. There is no need to add any large furniture items.
**Everything you install into the apartment, each of your 4 families will be taking with them when they move out to permanent housing, approximately 90 days later!
Please note that we seek only new items with regards to bedding, towels, and kitchen items.
We are happy to provide you with a tax receipt for all purchases related to adopting a unit. Upward Bound House will not be able to provide reimbursements for items you purchase (ie. please don't write us a check, and then ask us to write you a check).
We are deeply appreciative of your support! You play a crucial role in making the families feel welcomed into their new home, so thank you for being an Adopter. Feel free to contact Aimee Przybylski with questions and/or suggestions about the program. I look forward to hearing from you.
